Rep. Vargas Statement on National Volunteer Week
WASHINGTON, DC (April 13, 2015) — Today, Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) issued the following statement in honor of National Volunteer Week:
“As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we are reminded of the importance of volunteer work throughout our country. Volunteers change lives and provide vital services to some of the most underserved and disadvantaged individuals in our neighborhoods. The selfless work of volunteers helps to strengthen our hospitals, schools, community centers, and other charitable organizations.
“In addition to our recognition of the importance of volunteers, this week is also a call to action for us to roll up our sleeves and dedicate our time to serve our community. Recently I completed a Meals-on-Wheels route during their March for Meals campaign. It was a very rewarding experience to deliver meals to seniors in Chula Vista who depend on this service regularly.
“I highly encourage my colleagues in Congress and my constituents in California’s 51st District to hear the call to action and celebrate National Volunteer week.”
